SQUARE TO THE THRONE

NEW YORK’S SQUARESPACE DOES MORE THAN PODCASTS

If you’ve listened to a podcast in the last year, you’ve probably heard an ad for Squarespace, promising simply built websites with all the ease of an infomercial cleaning miracle.

But the company does more than just underwrite Judge John Hodgman – they actually deliver on the promise of elegant web development without getting up to your neck in CSS and HTML.

Founded in 2004, the company’s website development platform is now in its sixth iteration, offering everything from a barebones landing page to a proprietary ecommerce platform that embeds product listings and handles payment.

Founder Anthony Casalena was 21 when he launched the company on his own dime – nine years later Squarespace has grown into a full-on force with over 130 employees.

They’re currently hiring for 20 open positions out of their New York office – everything from Android dev to “Wedding Category Manager”. Get all the details here.

If you’re interested in using Squarespace for your own site, it’s not free (they’ve got to pay for those podcast ads somehow). After a free 14-day trial, the service starts at $8 per month. Get the details here.

Now go forth (and this is the sound of a gavel).

Nitty Gritty:

Circle Line: Interminable boat tour around Manhattan

Square: Mobile payments startup cofounded by Jack Dorsey

Squaring the circle: Ancient challenge to construct a square with the same area as a given circle
