How to transfer your domain to Squarespace

  1. Unlock your domain by following your current provider’s instructions.

  2. Get the authorization code from your provider. This may be referred to as an EPP code or transfer key.

  3. Start the transfer by entering your domain in the domain field.

  4. Authorize the transfer by entering your authorization code.

  5. Check out and pay. Keep the time remaining on your current registration, plus an additional year.

Sixty days must have elapsed since you registered or transferred the domain with your current provider. After you get started, transferring a domain to Squarespace can take anywhere from one to 15 days. The speed depends on the domain provider you’re starting with, but sometimes you can speed up the process. Learn more about domain transfer timing.

If you have a custom email address linked to your domain, you can transfer your MX records to Squarespace along with your domain. Your MX records keep your email hosted with your current email provider.

Your domain’s TLD must be supported by Squarespace, unlocked, and 60 days must have passed since you registered or transferred the domain with your current provider. See a full list of requirements and details.

The transfer itself is free, but a paid one-year extension of your domain registration is required. You’ll keep the time remaining on your registration on top of the extra year you’ll register through us. Learn more about pricing here. WHOIS is an internet record that lists information about domains. Squarespace automatically removes your personal contact information from the WHOIS record at no extra fee to keep your domain ownership information private. SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), is a technology that secures the connection between your browser and the website you’re visiting. Websites using SSL will have URLs beginning with https:// and creates trust with visitors by showing that their information is secure and encrypted on your site.
